Created in 1920 to operate Wateree Hydro Station, Lake Wateree nestled between Kershaw, Fairfield, and Lancaster Counties has been the South's best-kept secret. It is the last and largest lake in the chain of the Catawba River at 27 miles long from Camden Dam to Cedar Lake Dam with 13,864 surface acres and 242 miles of shoreline. The Wateree Dam is 3,380 feet long, and Lake Wateree supplies Lugoff and Camden with their water. Conveniently located between I-77 and I-20, it is just one hour south of Charlotte, North Carolina, and 45 minutes north of Columbia, South Carolina.

Lake Wateree is a 21 square miles reservoir in Kershaw, Fairfield, and Lancaster counties, South Carolina. It has 181 miles (291 km) of shoreline and includes Lake Wateree State Park, a bird refuge, and Shaw Air Force Base Recreation center.
